Piwigo Extensions Installed

Piwigo Extensions Installed

Piwigo is a free and open-source photo gallery software. It is popular for its flexibility and wide range of features. One of the things that makes Piwigo so versatile is its support for extensions. Extensions are add-ons that can be installed to add new features or functionality to Piwigo.

There are thousands of extensions available for Piwigo, so there is sure to be one that meets your needs. Some of the extensions I used with the bootstrap_darkroom theme are:

Installed and working

  • Add JQuery in footer: this extension adds jQuery in footer.

  • Exif View: converts EXIF values to human readable localized values. Corresponds to EXIF specification 2.2. Easily extensible with more languages or with more “translations”. (NOT SURE THIS WORKS) In the Plugins section, press “setting” for LocalFiles Editor extension

  • Edit Filename: allows editing of the original filename of the photo.

  • LocalFiles Editor: allows editing of local files from administration panel.

  • FCK Editor: a WYSIWYG editor for the photo “Description.” Need a better editor.

  • Force HTTPS: gives the capacity to force https connections on https enabled servers.

  • gdThumb: allows the application of Masonry style to album or image thumbs. Plugin was inspired by GThumb+ but adds new options.1

  • GThumb+: display thumbnails as patchwork.

  • Admin Tools: allows the administrator to do some admin task from the public pages when logged in.

  • Manage Properties Photos: allows the administrator to add properties on photo page and organize them. When saving, multiple errors are displayed but returns to a normal page and the new properties are displayed with the photo.

  • OpenStreetMap: this extension adds OpenStreetMap integration for Piwigo.

  • Personal Plugin: adds a “Personal Plugin” tab to the LocalFiles Editor. I used it to remove the “Contact Webmaster” from the footer.

  • Read Metadata: this only reads the metadata from a photo. I does not appear to add the metadata to the photo page.

Need evaluation

  • PWG Stuffs: allows the user to add custom blocks (modules) in their gallery. (LINK) Permits displaying blocks such as: Best rated, Featured Photos, Last comments, Most visited, Personnal block, Random picture, etc. Not sure of its value.

  • Tag Groups: allows the creation groups of tags – I don’t see a way to add “tag groups” so not sure this works

Troublesome extensions

The extensions below cause issues with the bootstrap_darkroom theme:

  • Advanced Menu Manager: should allows you to easily change the look of the menu of but gives an immediate fatal error with bootstrap_darkroom. Would need a bootstrap port, see bootstrapdefault/issues/10.

  • FCK Editor: a WYSIWYG editor for the photo “Description.” Problematic because it adds extra lines between lines of text.

  • Header Manager: allows to simply manage gallery banners. You can Gives many error messages.

  • Lightbox: display pictures in a lightbox. Gives many error messages.

  • Menu Tags: display unrelated tags in menu. Just displays a group of tags – useless.

  • rightClick: the ‘rightClick’ plugin deactivates the context menu on websized pictures and more. The Picture page, ‘akBookStyle’, ‘Lightbox’ and ‘HD Shadowbox’ are protected by default. Other valid jQuery selectors could be added to the default list. By default, users with the “admin” privacy level can access the right-click menu. Prevents loading of images in Safari.

  • Write Metadata: write Piwigo photo properties (title, description, author, tags) into IPTC fields. Doesn’t work as far as I can see. Problem with most of these extensions is there are no instructions.

These are just a few of the many extensions available for Piwigo. To learn more about extensions, or to find one that meets your needs, visit the Piwigo Extensions website.

  1. I don’t see a lot of difference between gdThumb and gThumb+ so I’m going to stick with gThumb+ ↩︎
